Thank you to the attendees, speakers, and fellow organizers of the 19th Ward Business Breakfast! We had a great turnout at Barraco’s in Mt. Greenwood on March 25, 2025. Alderman Matt O’Shea kicked off the breakfast with recent 19th Ward successes, including an arrest of the perpetrator of a robbery at Flippin Flavors, someone who has broken into several local businesses over the years. Ald. O’Shea also expressed his gratitude to business owners and stressed how important the business community is to a thriving neighborhood.
Safety Information for 19th Ward Businesses
The 22nd District is the third safest district in the city, but it is not immune to safety issues. Commander Brian Kinnane of the 22nd Police District, which serves the 19th Ward and beyond, encouraged business owners to stay aware and in communication with the 22nd District. He reminded attendees of the best practices for business corridor public safety.
- Fill out the emergency contact form and email it to the 22nd Police District so that local law enforcement can reach out to you in the event of a burglary.
- Do not keep cash in your register overnight, and if possible, do not keep it on the premises when you’re closed.
- Keep at least some lights on overnight.
- Install cameras in the front & back of your business, as well as facing the cash register.
- Keeping cash in a safe is great, but make sure the safe is bolted to the ground.
- If you have an ATM in your business, move it out of view or consider removing it if it’s not a necessary part of your business.
- Call 911 if you experience a burglary or legitimately suspicious behavior at your business. Reporting is essential to the functioning of the police department.
